There seems to be a new kerfluffle in Romancelandia EVERY. SINGLE. DAY. on social media.
The latest I have to speak to because it makes me want to spit nails. It seems some authors and readers are "shaming" readers and authors who enjoy reading or who write a "dark romance" and all the pushing against the boundaries that a dark romance entails.
To those who are doing the shaming--shut up. Just shut up. If "dark romance" and the "questionable actions" of those characters within that fictional world aren't your jam, fine. They're not my jam, either, but NO ONE gave you the right to be the gatekeepers of what anyone else should be allowed to read. Just shut up!
To those reading/writing "dark romance"--keep on being your awesome self and read whatever the hell you want. No one has the right to tell you what you can or can't read. PERIOD. Read those dark romances with morally gray leads, with their "questionable actions." Keep writing those books, because there are those who like them and who read them.
I'm climbing down off my soapbox now.
