Marcus: The Youngest Brother Who Carried the Weight of the War

Marcus is the youngest of the Original Five Oath Brothers by birth, but the events of the war and its aftermath have aged him far beyond his years. He carries the heavy, weary presence of a man who has already lived several lifetimes.

Marcus and David, Daniel’s estranged son, were childhood friends. It was Marcus David entrusted with a single and final letter home to his father, asking Daniel to honor the oath he made with Marcus, JT, Jeff, Hunter, and Davis. After his parole from Fort Delaware at war’s end, Marcus mailed that letter for his deceased friend, little knowing the events that single page would set into motion.

Early in his post-war life, Marcus clung desperately to his personal honor — it was the last unbroken piece of himself he had left after the fall of the Confederacy, the loss of his family home, his court-martial, and the horrors of the Immortal 600. Honor was his anchor and his identity.
